Before you buy a Little Giant Pond Pump, be sure to calculate how much water the pond holds. A pond pump should re-circulate at least half the volume of water in your pond every hour. Pond pumps are rated by GPH (gallons per hour) or GPM (gallons per minute) produced.

For example, if your pond holds 5,000 gallons of water, you’ll need a pump that can move at least 2,500 GPH.  Although, a 2,500 GPH model will work Because many people choose to expand their ponds later, you may want to buy a larger pump than you need and adjust the flow down as needed.  Then, when you are ready to enlarge your pond, you already have a larger capacity pump in place, and you won't need to upgrade right away.
